A 20-year-old refugee was found dead in a Hungarian truck transporting wooden pallets near the port of Calais, France, French online daily La Voix du Nord reported today. The online daily’s entry shows photographs of a Waberer’s truck.

According to reports, the driver was forced to break suddenly on a road near Calais, and when he went to investigate the shipment he found a dead Iraqi refugee in his truck. The refugee may have lost his life when the shipment fell on him during the sudden breaking. The refugee was reportedly hiding in the truck with his family; the other stowaways are said to be fine.

Citing a prefecture, Hungarian news agency MTI reported that the truck was driven by a chauffeur of Hungarian citizenship, and the Prosecutor’s Office of Boulogne-sur-Mer has initiated a procedure regarding the incident.

Calais, France, is an entry point to the Channel Tunnel, where refugees have been trying to sneak in via bus or train to enter Great Britain. This has resulted in the tragic death of several asylum seekers in the past few months.
