Four thousand parents of Hungarian students have already indicated on a Facebook page that they will keep their children home from school on February 29 to show solidarity with protesting teachers.

The parents have planned the action to show their support for teachers, who say that Hungarian education is on the wrong track. “What if we, parents, also helped teachers and expressed clearly to our ‘Respected Government’ our demands for real change to the education system, not just the usual fictitious changes and propaganda,” a parent wrote on the eventʼs Facebook page, according to Hungarian online daily index.hu.

As parents are allowed to cover three missed schooldays a term, parents coordinating the initiative have encouraged others to keep their children home for the day, as a “first warning”, index.hu says.
