Orbán to UN: This is mass migration, not refugee crisis
What Europe is facing today is “not a refugee crisis” but a “mass migratory movement composed of economic migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and also foreign fighters”, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said yesterday in New York, at a United Nations summit on the refugee crisis in Europe. Orbán added that it is “an uncontrolled and unregulated process”.

The prime minister blamed the lack of consensus on the refugee crisis on the “nature of the challenge” that prevents “us from finding the proper answers”.
Orbán emphasized that there is an “unlimited source of supply of people”, and Europe will be “destabilized” if “current trends” are not changed. Based on his arguments, the prime minister called for a worldwide quota system and urged the Secretary General “to initiate negotiations on sharing this burden on a global level.”
The prime minister said that “we have a heartfelt compassion” for those people who decided to leave their home. He said that they are victims of “poor governance of their countries … of failed international political decisions … (and) of the failed policy of us in Europe which raises expectations that are impossible to be fulfilled.” Orbán added that “it is our moral responsibility to give back these people their homes and their country. It cannot be our objective to provide them with a new European life. We must assist them to regain their own life in their home. To achieve this, we have to create peace and a plan of economic development in their home countries.”
The prime minister said he comes from a “Christian country” and the “Christian approach does not tolerate” anti-Muslim policies. He said that “the Muslim faith which we honor and respect is not responsible for the root causes of this mass migratory movement”. Therefore, the prime minister invited “all to join our efforts to avoid the spread of anti-Muslim sentiments”.
