Orbán praises Trump and his policies again

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán once again praised U.S. President-elect Donald J. Trump, describing his recent victory as “the triumph of reality over ideologies and dreams,” Hungarian news portal hvg.hu reported today.

Orbán mentioned Trump during a speech he gave this morning during the Hungarian Permanent Discussion (Magyar Állandó Értekezlet). According to the news portal, Orbán said that those people who “are not able to digest Trump’s victory and Brexit” are the same people who talk positively about Fidel Castro, who was also mentioned on the event of his recent death.

Orbán was cited by hvg.hu as saying that nowadays in Hungary, some people have had enough of constantly being made to feel guilty because “if somebody feels Hungarian, they are called a nationalist; if somebody says they love the family, they are called homophobic; if they feel Christian, they are called clerical.”

According to Orbán, political systems in the Western world are changing and the ideologies of the left have lost ground, but the traditional right also needs to change or it, too, will lose ground. According to hvg.hu, Orbán said the main points of Trump’s policies are “acceptable,” such as putting an end to “the export of American democracy,” as well as “not letting migrants in.”

Commenting on the sentence a Syrian asylum seeker received recently after last year’s disturbances at the Röszke border crossing in southern Hungary, Orbán was reported as saying “we said it in advance, we put billboards around the whole country about it: if you come here, you need to abide by Hungarian laws.”
