Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Iranʼs first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri yesterday met in Tehran, Iran, and signed several bilateral agreements, including one to avoid double taxation and another on investment incentives, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

"Four in the morning. Arriving to Tehran." – The caption Hungaryʼs Prime Minister Viktor Orbán added to the picture above, uploaded on his Official Facebook Page.

After their meeting, the Hungarian leader said while addressing a forum of about 200 Iranian and Hungarian businessmen in the afternoon that a “new era” has begun in relations between the two countries, adding that “Hungary is approaching Iran with respect and reverence”, Hungarian online daily origo.hu reported.

The Hungarian prime minister also announced the setting up of a joint economic cooperation committee and establishing a trading house in Tehran, MTI reported. Orbán also reportedly said that Hungaryʼs Eximbank will provide financing to Iran once the sanctions "run out".

Eshaq Jahangiri said that he trusted the prime minister’s current visit would boost economic ties, which had declined considerably over the past few years, MTI reported. He named energy and agriculture as fields of future cooperation and said Iran welcomes Hungarian companies planning to invest there, MTI added.

Orbán expressed Hungaryʼs interest in helping Iran in training nuclear experts and said water management, water purification, telecommunications and the health industry could be areas of cooperation, MTI reported.

The prime minister is being accompanied by several members of his government as well as a group of Hungarian businessmen on his two-day official visit to Tehran, MTI said.
