Orbán makes cover of The Economist, beside Trump, Le Pen

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is portrayed on the cover of the latest issue of The Economist weekly, next to Donald Trump and Marine Le Pen, with the title “Playing with fear”, according to the weekly’s facebook post advertising the issue out tomorrow .

The Economist, in the lead article already published on its webpage, criticizes right-wing populist politicians, claiming that “the threat is real”, and that “now populists are also feeding on the fear that governments cannot – or will not – keep their citizens safe.”

Although the Hungarian prime minister is on the cover, he is only mentioned briefly in the online article, which says “Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban, has vowed to build an ‘illiberal state’ and looks to Vladimir Putin’s Russia as a model. Even when they are not in power, populists warp the agenda.”
