The European Union needs to go through a deep change of identity, particularly the European Commission, and establish “fundamental reforms”, Hungary’s Prime Minister said prior to the Brexit referendum which resulted in U.K.ʼs decision to leave the EU, German news agency DPA reported today.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild, which will be published today, Orbán said prior to the Brexit vote that regardless of the results, “Europe needs to learn the lessons of the opinions of millions that are being surpressed in many member states”, the German news agency said prior to the publication of the full interview.

Orbán stressed that the European Union needs to respect the agreements, instead of providing “special rights to certain members and acknowledge the breach of agreements”, the DPA cited the prime minister. Orbán, reportedly stressed, once again, the importance of defending the external borders of the Union.
