Orbán: Brussels will back down from migrant quota

Hungary’s referendum on the migrant quota will allow the Hungarian people to decide what kind of European Union they want, and Brussels will back down from from imposing such a quota on this country, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said this morning.

Hungary wants a democratic Union that respects the rights of Member States, Orbán said during his fortnightly interview on state-owned Kossuth radio this morning. “The Union is not managed by a small elite but by Member States,” Orbán said, according to a report from Origo, adding that Brussels will back down from the quota. “We must prevent the installation of a permanent migrant distribution system. If this happens, in 10-20 years we won’t recognize Budapest. We must protect the country’s culture and its homogeneity,” Orbán reportedly added.
Orbán went on to say that this concept of a “Big Europe” will soon be a thing of the past. “If we project the current economic performance of Member States into the future, it becomes clear that the weight of the EU’s economy will continue to shift toward Central Europe,” Orbán said, according to reports.
“Dramatic population growth is happening all over the world, the question is: does Europe want to take part in that race. We don’t need to take part in a demographic race but it’s clear that we need more young people and this can only be achieved with a family policy,” the prime minister reportedly added.
