Nézőpont projects five-party parliament, Fidesz victory

Party Popularity

The latest poll from the Nézőpont research institute has the governing Fidesz party winning reelection in the 2014 general elections, taking 42% of votes and a 58% parliamentary majority.

In contrast to the 116 Fidesz seats in the streamlined, 200-person parliament, the socialist MSzP would have 46; Together 2014-Dialogue for Hungary (E14-PM) and the extremist right-wing Jobbik party would get 15; and the green-centric LMP would get 7 seats, assuming a turnout of 52%.

In terms of those expressing a party preference, the poll showed the Fidesz-KDNP coalition earning 42%; MSzP, 23%; Jobbik, 13%; E14-PM, 10%; LMP, 6%; and the Democratic Coalition (DK) party, 4%.

Nézőpont also queried those expressing a preference for the left-wing parties as to whether a coalition with thus-far unaffiliated LMP and DK should be advanced. In this area, some 49% of MSzP supporters opine that the other parties should be negotiated with, while 31% advocate keeping the coalition as it is. However, some 60% and 59% of E14-PM and DK supporters, respectively, want negotiations with the other parties to begin.

Nézőpont’s head Csaba Fodor said that the results could be altered depending on actual voter turnout and the choices made by voters who haven’t revealed their preferences for various reasons.
