MPs: Surplus from 2024 Olympics would be spent on healthcare
In a motion submitted to Parliament yesterday, Fidesz-KDNP MPs Antal Rogán and Péter Harrach have put forward a proposal that the profit from the 2024 Olympic Games (the motion erroneously refers to the event as the 2014 Olympic games) should be spent “primarily and mainly” on public healthcare, according to to the document which was published on the governmentʼs official website.
Earlier studies by PwC estimated that Olympic infrastructure developments alone would cost taxpayers approximately HUF 3.838 trillion, and there are questions of whether there will actually be a "profit" from the games. Furthermore, given the process by which countries are awarded the games, it is highly unlikely that a European country will be chosen to host the 2024 Olympics.
