More than 300,000 unauthorized crossings into Hungary this year

Up until yesterday (October 4), Hungarian authorities had registered 312,111 “illegal immigrants” into the country since the beginning of the year, data published by the Hungarian Police today (October 5) reveals.

The majority (5,878) of illegal border crossers arrested yesterday were picked up by police at the Croatian-Hungarian border, while 43 illegal border crossings were attempted at the Serbo-Hungarian border, where Hungary has built a fence as a “temporary measure” to prevent asylum seekers from entering the country.
On Saturday, a total of 6,056 people were apprehended making “illegal border crossings” into Hungary, 5,997 on the Croatian-Hungarian border, and 38 on the Serbo-Hungarian border. On Friday, there were of 4,897 unauthorized crossings attempted: 4,796 at the Croatian border, and 81 on the Serbian border.
Earlier reports suggest that Hungary could soon fence off the entire Croatian border in an attempt to halt the influx of refugees arriving to Hungary by the thousand on a daily basis.
