Maizière: Hungary should receive help, not only judgement

EU

Karl Ernst Thomas de Maizière, Germany’s Federal Minister of the Interior, said that Hungary should not simply be judged, but also offered help in handling the refugee crisis the country is currently facing, the politician told state-owned ZDF television late yesterday, according to Hungarian online daily index.hu.

The politician urged the European Union to establish so-called “hotspots” in Hungary, which are EU operated temporary offices aimed at helping the country cope with the registration of refugees and evaluation of their asylum-seeking procedures, index.hu added.

The minister reportedly said that UNHCR could also help Hungary, as António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said that his organization is standing by to help, index.hu said.
