Lázár: State reforms likely to include staff cuts

History

The government has decided to start a reform of the state, to make its operations less bureaucratic and more efficient, and the restructuring is likely to include staff cuts at ministries, János Lázár, head of the Prime Minister's Office, announced today.

The restructuring will focus on efficiency and "will affect the staff of ministries" as well as legislation on regional public administration and on the the management of civil affairs, Lazar was quoted as saying by MTI, the Hungarian news agency.

Lázár reportedly said it is untenable that nearly one million of the 4.1 million taxpayers are paid by the state.

The government will define, for the long term, the services voters can count on in exchange for the taxes they pay, Lázár said. The goal is a state that offer its services for the tax paid and not for extra fees, he said, according to MTI.

Lázár reportedly said the reform is designed to make life for easier for enterprises, to reduce red tape and to support growth.
