Lázár: Multinational food retailers should leave Hungary
Hungary’s Cabinet Chief János Lázár said today he would be “content to chase multinationals away” from Hungary, as these companies “haul Europe’s rubbish” into the country, according to reports. He reportedly said it would be best for foreign food-retail chains if they left Hungary.

During his regular weekly press conference this afternoon, Lázár said the Hungarian governmentʼs review of the food-retail sector convinced him that foreign firms should leave the country, and that leaving would be best for them, according to hvg.hu.
Lázár reportedly said there have been major lobbying efforts to get the government to reduce value-added taxes on UHT milk, as it is planning to do for raw milk. The cabinet chief said he “is not sure” how much Hungarian milk farmers would be helped by such a measure, as in Hungary, approximately 60% of the UHT milk is imported and only 40% is produced here, hvg.hu reported.
