Lázár: Hungary to strengthen defence on Serbian border
As pressure from “illegal immigration” on the Hungarian-Serbian border is increasing, Hungary will strengthen its security on the border, Cabinet Chief János Lázár said today.
Lázár said at his regular weekly press conference today that 13,446 people have been apprehended this year for “illegally crossing the border” .
He added that “illegal immigrants, in many cases are violent” at the border and in the camp in Kiskunhalas. Lázár said immigrants need to obey Hungarian laws, and the government will “react in a firm manner”.
The cabinet chief said he expects human traffickers to raise migration pressure on Europe in the upcoming months. He added that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has the migration issue on the agenda of his talks in Egypt, where the PM is paying an official visit with his delegation, ending today.
Lázár said the refugees “consciously refused to register” in Serbia, so they could not be sent back there.
He praised the work of officials working in Hungary’s immigration office, calling them “good and heroic”.
