Lázár deems Brussels’ proposal ‘unacceptable’
Brussels’ decision to require EU members to pay a fine if they refuse to receive refugees under the European Commission’s quota plan “is unacceptable”, Hungary’s Cabinet Chief János Lázár said today, according to reports.
Once again starting his regular weekly press conference with the topic of “migrants”, Lázár (pictured) stressed that Hungary has defended the borders of Europe, and this is why fewer “immigrants” arrive in Germany and Austria, Hungarian online daily origo.hu reported.
As he has frequently in the past, Lázár praised the concept of a referendum in Hungary that would let Hungarians vote on the following question: “Do you want the European Union to prescribe the settlement of non-Hungarian citizens in Hungary without the approval of the Hungarian Parliament?” Parliament approved the referendum on Wednesday.
Lázár said that the referendum means Hungarian citizens will be able vote about their sovereignty. He stressed that “we can only step up against the quota plan in unison”, origo.hu reported. “Only the referendum can protect us from the quota system” Lázár said, according to origo.hu.
