“National sovereignty needs to be strengthened”, the minister stressed today during his regular weekly press conference. Echoing the opinion of Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Lázár said that British citizens might have voted to exit the European Union due to its migration policy. He stressed that if the issue of “illegal migration” is not solved, the “future of the union might be in danger”.

Commenting on what could possibly happen to Hungarians in Britain post-Brexit, the cabinet chief said the Hungarian government, together with the other V4 countries, will do everything to defend the interest of U.K.-based Hungarians, according to a report by online daily origo.hu.

Lázár stressed that Hungary is mutually negotiating with the European Union and the V4 countries on the terms of the U.K. leaving the block. He added that Hungary will not offer any special accommodations to the U.K. by itself.

Lázár added that he believes that Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, must stay in his position, and that this position needs to be strengthened.
