Info campaign outside Hungary to cost HUF 1 bln

Initiatives

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ordered the allocation of HUF 1.016 bln from this year’s state budget to launch an information campaign on “economic migration” that would be aimed at refugees who are in transit to Hungary, online daily origo.hu reported today, citing a decree in official gazette Magyar Közlöny.

Speaking at his weekly press conference yesterday, Cabinet Chief János Lázár said that the campaign would be launched in September at a cost of “millions of euros”, origo.hu reported. He did not mention, however any further details, nor the nature of the messages, most likely to appear on billboards aimed at refugees.

In response to a query by origo.hu, Lázár said that the campaign is not a “political PR initiative.” Earlier this week, The Guardian called the Hungarian fence on the Serbian border a “pointless PR exercise”.
