Hungary objects to ‘slander’ by Sweden
The Hungarian ambassador in Stockholm today will present a declaration of objection to the Swedish Foreign Ministry for the Swedish government’s minister for migration “committing serious slander” against Hungary, national news agency MTI reported today.
An announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade says that Sweden slandered Hungary when it said that Hungarian police used tear gas against women and children seeking asylum. The announcement notes that “the truth is that aggressive immigrants were throwing rocks and pieces of concrete at the Hungarian police for hours,” which lead to the injury of 14 police officers.
In the Swedish institute SFI (Svensk för invadraren), where immigrants are offered a two-year, state-funded Swedish language course, students were given a language exercise on Hungaryʼs closure of the Serbian border, daily Magyar Idők reported today.
According to the daily, the text in Swedish was the following:
“Hungary closed the Hungarian-Serbian border. This makes it difficult for refugees to enter the European Union. Some tried to enter anyway. The police used tear gas against them.”
