Hungary, INTOSAI ink agreement to fight corruption
The Hungarian government and the development initiative (IDI) of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) signed a donor agreement to help fight corruption, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said today, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
Based on the proposal of Hungaryʼs State Audit Office (ÁSZ), the government decided to support INTOSAIʼs Development Initiative with HUF 129 million to fight corruption, ÁSZ chairman László Domokos said, according to MTI. The chairman added that the amount comes from operational savings from ÁSZʼs 2014 budget.
Szijjártó said that the large volume of foreign investments prove that foreign companies are satisfied with Hungary, according to MTI. The Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) announced earlier that 2015 was a record setting year in terms of foreign investments in Hungary.
According to Szijjártó if the system contained slow, dishonest and corrupt elements, that would lead to poor performance in foreign trade, MTI reported. U.S. Ambassador Colleen Bell recently expressed “serious concerns” regarding corruption in Hungary
