Hungarian PM proposes ten-point action plan

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán put forward a ten-point action plan that he says will protect the European Union’s external borders, during a meeting organized by the Centrist Democrat International (CDI), a coalition of center-right parties, in Lisbon on Friday, according to the official website of the Hungarian government kormany.hu.

During the meeting, Orbán presented his “Schengen 2.0” plan, which he later told public media was an improvement on the European Commission’s management of the “migration crisis” that he said was flawed because it focused on reforms to the asylum system rather than on the protection of EU borders, kormany.hu cited the prime minister.
The proposal has been shared among Visegrád countries and leaders of EU member states and will be presented by Orbán in Germany and other European countries in the coming weeks, kormany.hu reported.
Orbán, who is one of the vice-presidents of the CDI, reiterated his objection to Brusselsʼ migrant quota, which forces EU member states to address demographic and economic problems through immigration, according to the web portal. The prime minister said that Hungary’s demographic and economic concerns can be remedied “through prudent family and economic policy” and not through rules imposed by Brussels, kormany.hu reported.
He added that the planned referendum regarding Brussel’s resettlement quota will be put forward to the Hungarian people soon, kormany.hu added.
