Government turns to EC to dispute Gyurcsány’s company contract
The Hungarian government has put forward a request to the European Commission for information regarding a HUF 1.5 bln contract given to Altus, a company owned by former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, the current leader of the Democratic Coalition opposition party, cabinet chief János Lázár said at press conference yesterday, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
The government is querying how Altus was chosen to assess EU-financed development projects being carried out between 2014 and 2020, Lázár said. The main concern is that Altus cannot perform its tasks "impartially and without regard to political matters", Lázár said, adding that this could harm trust in European institutions.
