Government holds conference on civic consolidation
The ruling Fidesz party held a private conference yesterday, with a focus on civic consolidation, during which Prime Minister Viktor Orbán evaluated the achievements of the government over the past five years, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
In outlining future goals, the Prime Minister reportedly told officials that they have another year to act on these initiatives, before the focus shifts to the next election in the next two years, Cabinet Chief János Lázár told journalists.
The conference also included a discussion of the recent OECD report on Hungary, as well as presentations from the head of the State Audit Office, the Fiscal Council and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on measures required to maintain long-term economic growth, including increasing employment, boosting innovation and reducing public debt.
A session of the national security cabinet also convened on Tuesday evening to address the challenges posed by the wave of refugees arriving in Hungary.
