Fidesz rally 6,000 for “battle against utility fees”

Government

The latest government campaign inviting the public to join the “Hungarian team” who would help keep utility fees at bay has 6,000 members so far, political daily Magyar Hírlap reported. The paper said that due to delivery distances, most confirmations came from Budapest with more expected from rural towns.

The publicly funded call was launched to support the governing party’s election campaign and political agenda, i.e. the “battle” against utility fees. In September, Orbán promised to “put an end to unwarranted profiteering in the utility sector” shortly after announcing that utility-price cuts would be the most important theme in the Fidesz-KDNP platform for the 2014 election.

The cabinet is currently discussing another wave of energy price cuts to take effect before the general elections in the spring; in 2013, utility prices were reduced 20% after two government dictates.
