Fast-tracked immigration law legalizes Serb fence

Voting in an expedited procedure without debate, lawmakers approved amendments to Hungary’s immigration act that provide legal grounds for building a fence on the Serbian border and allow for expedited decisions in the case of refugees who apply for asylum, Hungarian online news daily hir24.hu reported.

According to the news portal, under the fast-tracked legislation, immigrants arriving from “third countries” would be able to work in public employment.

The legislative package, proposed by Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér, passed with 151 voting in favor and 42 voting against.
