EU excludes Hungary from measures against migration

EU

Hungary is the only European Member state that is being excluded from the EU’s Triton Operation and Poseidon Operation, which are aimed at decreasing migration into the EU, EU Agency Frontex told Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet today.

The €38 mln Triton Operation is aimed at the area in the middle of the Mediterranean, focusing particularly on migrants arriving from Africa to Italy and Malta, while the €18 mln Poseidon Operation focuses on the eastern areas of the Mediterranean, Hungarian online daily hvg.hu reported. The Poseidon Operation includes 21 EU member states, while the Triton Operation includes all EU member states with the exception of Hungary, Magyar Nemzet reported.

“We understand that Hungary is under great migrational pressure at the moment, however, this cannot be compared to the situation in Greece and Italy,” the European Commission wrote in a letter to Magyar Nemzet. According to the paper, the European Commission responded in a letter that it does not agree with Hungary building a fence, but supports joint action and information sharing.

SUPPORT THE BUDAPEST BUSINESS JOURNAL

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
Newspaper organizations across the globe have struggled to find a business model that allows them to continue to excel, without compromising their ability to perform. Most recently, some have experimented with the idea of involving their most important stakeholders, their readers.
We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
