The European Commission on Thursday said it asked the European Court to impose a €27,316 daily penalty on Hungary for failing to transpose a European Union waste directive into national law on time.
Hungary failed to meet the December 2010 deadline for transposing the EUs Waste Framework Directive into national law. It must pay the fine until it brings its legislation in line with the directive.
The Commission also imposed fines on Bulgaria, Poland and Slovakia for the same offense.
