Documentary dubs Hungary ‘Orbánistan’
A documentary film directed by a Hungarian woman living in Berlin, introduces Hungary as “Orbánistan”, Hungarian online daily hvg.hu reported.
The documentary “Orbánistan” will be shown on August 4 in Berlin’s Kino Moviemento. Based on the documentary’s description, it shows the “authoritarian reign” of the Orbán government since 2010, like “the centralization of media and press”, the “closure of alternative cultural institutions”, the “interference of political life in theaters and museums” and the “topsy-turvy of the education policy”.
Commenting on the current situation in the country, Hungarian philosopher Ágnes Heller says in the trailer for the documentary that “this is not real nationalism, but nationalism combined with party dictatorship.” The philosopher reminds us that “those who did not support the Kádár regime were declared enemies, and today, those who do not support this regime are declared enemies.”
