Demo planned at Corvinus University today
The students and teachers of Corvinus University in Budapest will take part in a demonstration today from 6 p.m., at their Buda campus, to protest the government’s plans to merge Corvinus University in Buda with the Szent István University in Gödöllő and combine the campuses. Organizers complained that the merger could reduce staff and weaken the quality of Corvinus.

László Palkovics, state secretary of the Ministry of Human Capacity responsible for higher education, told students today that the courses on offer through the modified faculties will still be taught at Corvinusʼ Buda campus and not at Szent István University in Gödöllő, according to MTI. Those affected by the changes include the faculties of food sciences, horticulture sciences and landscaping, Palkovics said, but he added that the courses and teachers will not change and those who began their studies at Corvinus University will also receive their diplomas from Corvinus.
Organizers currently have no plans to call off todayʼs demonstration, set to take place at the Buda campus at Villányi út 35-43 and culminate at the Ministry of Human Capacity (EMMI) on Szalay utca. More than 1,400 people have signed up on a Facebook page promoting the event.
