The workshop brings together specialists in agriculture, forestry, water management, food safety, agrarian policy, labor, the environment and other areas, representing government, research and academia, and non-governmental organizations.

The main objective of the Budapest workshop is to discuss how to strengthen the contribution of agriculture, forestry and fisheries and related value chains to national sustainable development, in the light of globally agreed goals. It also aims to increase understanding of the principles of sustainable food and agriculture to support joint action across sectors, and identify priorities for FAO support.

“FAO’s work in Europe and Central Asia is very relevant to global commitments and priorities, particularly the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement,” said Avetik Nersisyan, FAO agriculture officer and one of the workshop’s organizers. “Now that the Paris climate agreement has entered into force, there is an emphasis on Nationally Determined Contributions. FAO is prepared to collaborate with its member countries on projects and programs that are climate-smart.”

Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan have all sent participants to the workshop, developed under FAO’s Strategic Objective no. 2: Make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more productive and sustainable. It is being hosted by Hungaryʼs Ministry of Agriculture.

SUPPORT THE BUDAPEST BUSINESS JOURNAL

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
Newspaper organizations across the globe have struggled to find a business model that allows them to continue to excel, without compromising their ability to perform. Most recently, some have experimented with the idea of involving their most important stakeholders, their readers.
We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
