Varga holds talks with EBRD negotiators

History

National Economy Minister Mihály Varga held talks in Budapest with a group of negotiators from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the implementation of an agreement signed earlier and a country-specific strategy the bank is preparing, the National Economy Ministry said today.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed with the EBRD in February, the government committed to gradually lowering the bank levy from next year. After the signing, the EBRD inserted "the strengthening of the bank sectorʼs flexibility and lending ability" as a priority in its country strategy for Hungary for 2015-2019.

The government said it expects the EBRD to acknowledge Hungaryʼs latest economic results, as other international organizations, such as the EU, IMF and OECD, have done, when it prepares the 2015-2019 country strategy, the ministry said.
