Following talks with his British counterpart Philip Hammond in the framework of a NATO summit in Warsaw, Szijjártó said the Hungarian government respects the decision of British citizens to leave the EU and was against speedy proceedings, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Hungary will strive to maintain the closest economic ties possible between the U.K. and the EU throughout negotiations of the Brexit, Szijjártó said. He also stressed that Hungary will defend the rights and interests of Hungarian nationals working in the U.K., MTI reported.

The Hungarian government said it greatly appreciated the close ties between Hungary and the UK in the past and will strive to maintain these in future, a statement by the ministry noted, according to MTI.
