Szijjártó holds talks with counterparts at ASEM summit
Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó met with several other foreign ministers at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit today in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
Szijjártó met with his Thai counterpart and said Hungary is supporting continuing talks about an EU-Thailand free trade agreement on technical levels, according to MTI. The ministers signed agreements allowing the export of Hungarian duck and goose meat to Thailand and Hungary providing 40 scholarships to Thai students at local universities.
Szijjártó signed agreements with the foreign minister of New-Zealand on preventing double taxation and strengthening security ties.
Meeting with the foreign minister of Pakistan, Szijjártó and his counterpart reportedly decided to sign an economic cooperation agreement to regulate the presence of MOL in Pakistan.
In a talk with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, Szijjártó reportedly reiterated Hungaryʼs support for China receiving market economy status and also rejected the European Unionʼs policy of laying pressure on China concerning its territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
In a private conversation with Irish foreign minister Charlie Flanagan, both ministers expressed their opinion that the EU should maintain strong ties with the United Kingdom even as the UK prepares for Brexit.
