Some 45% of Hungarian students are planning their future outside of Hungary, while 39% of young people under the age of 25 are also planning to leave, Endre Sík, chief researcher of Tárki told Hungarian commercial InfoRádió on Saturday, according to a report by hvg.hu.

This April, the number of individuals planning to emigrate from Hungary has doubled as compared to the same period last year, while 15% of the Hungarian population is currently planning to leave the country, Sík said.

Some 28% of those aged 26-35 are planning their future abroad, however, these are only plans, the researcher noted. “Many of those who finally realize such plans do not know whether they would like to stay abroad or not,” the researcher added, as many are uncertain how stable their jobs are and what burdens are associated with living abroad.

According to the researcher, the most popular destinations for both short-term and long-term employment abroad include Austria, Germany, Great Britain, the United States and Canada.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
