Revised retail sales up 2.9% in July

The volume of retail sales in Hungary was up 2.9% in July according to raw data, and by 4.0% adjusted for calendar effects, as compared to the same month a year earlier, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported today, revising its earlier report in a second estimate of data.

Adjusted for calendar effects, the volume of sales rose by 1.7% in specialized and non-specialized food shops, by 6.7% in non-food retail shops, and by 2.5% in automotive fuel retail, KSH data show. 

Sales in the national retail trade network, as well as in mail order and internet retail, totaled HUF 851 billion at current prices in July. Food, beverage and tobacco stores accounted for 47% of all retail sales, while the relevant figures for non-food retail shops and the network of petrol stations were 36% and 17% respectively, according to the KSH.

During the first seven months of the year, the volume of sales, both according to raw and calendar-adjusted data, was 5.0% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the KSH. The volume of sales rose by 2.7% in food, beverage and tobacco shops, by 8.0% in non-food retail trade, and by 5.1% in automotive fuel retail, the KSH added.
