Retail sales growth slows to 2.6% in Oct, KSH confirms

Retail sales growth in Hungary slowed to 2.6% year-on-year in October from 5.1% in September according to both unadjusted and calendar-adjusted figures, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) confirmed in a second reading of data released today.
Adjusted food sales rose 1.6%, non-food sales climbed 4.4% and fuel sales rose 1.2%, all slower than in the previous month. In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 853 billion in September, at current prices. Supermarkets and shops that sell food accounted for 45% of the total, non-food shops for 39% and petrol stations for 16%.
For January-October, unadjusted retail sales rose 4.8% and adjusted sales increased 4.7%. Adjusted for calendar effects, food sales rose 2.7%, non-food sales increased 7.2% and fuel sales were up 5.3% during the period.
