Output of Hungary’s sole nuclear power plant at Paks was scaled back yesterday after a generator malfunction, but it did not and does not compromise the safety of the block, the National Atomic Energy Office (OAH) said, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

The malfunction, which took place at 12:11 pm, caused output of the plantʼs number one block to fall more than 100MW, MTI reported. The energy office said the turbine attached to the generator was shut down after plant staff realized the problem, but the blockʼs other turbine continues to operate.

The OAH said the malfunction did not and does not compromise the safety of the plant and the current state of operation can be maintained indefinitely, so that repairs can be made, MTI added.
