The average salaries of National Bank of Hungary employees have grown by 50% in the last five years, MNB Governor György Matolcsy said in response to Bertalan Tóth, MP of the opposition Socialists, Hungarian online daily nol.hu reported today.

According to Matolcsy, the number of employees in the central bank has doubled, while payroll has tripled, nol.hu said. Five years ago, 584 employees were paid HUF 371 mln; this year a total of 1,275 employees were paid HUF 1.148 bln.

Matolcsy noted that the growth is chiefly due to the integration of the financial supervisory board PSZÁF in the fall of 2013, and the harmonization of the board’s employees. Matolcsy reportedly noted that the termination of the bonus system also contributed to the growth.
