The MNBʼs board has already approved the necessary funding, Matolcsy said, responding to a number of queries by Erzsébet Schmuck, an MP of opposition LMP, posted on the Parliament’s website. Matolcsy did not provide details on the cost of the offices, explaining that the expenditure is included only in aggregate form in the MNBʼs 2015 budget.

The MNB opened international offices in Hamburg and Paris in the summer. An office in Rome is set to open in the coming days, followed by ones in New York, Buenos Aires and Beirut "in the coming months". In past few years, the MNB has maintained offices in Tokyo, Frankfurt, New York, Paris, Zurich, London and Beirut.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
