MNB: Demand for home loans climbs

Hungarian banks disbursed HUF 41.5 billion in home loans to retail clients in April, up 72% from the same month a year earlier, a monthly release of data by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) shows, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.

The increase accelerated from a 65% rise, to HUF 32.5 bln, in March. 

Hungary launched a revamped home purchase subsidy scheme in February. 

A recent survey of loan officers by the central bank showed that 44% of banks saw higher demand for home loans in Q1. 

Outlays of consumer loans also rose sharply in April from the same month a year earlier, climbing 75% to HUF 28.1 bln.
