Ministry confirms tax chief’s resignation

History

Hungary’s National Economy Ministry confirmed this morningʼs news reports that the head of the National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV), Ildiko Vida (pictured), handed in her resignation two months ago, and her position is being taken over by her former deputy, Arpad Varga, as of today, state news agency MTI reported.

According to MTI, the ministry said in an announcement that the Hungarian government wishes to create a more client-friendly, task-oriented tax office that fits better with the new structure of the economy. The most important questions involving the authorityʼs restructuring will be decided after a new chairman is named, it reportedly added.

The ministry said there was an increase in tax revenue and a shrinking shadow economy under Vidaʼs watch, MTI said, adding that it thanked her for fulfilling her tasks as the head of NAV and it wished her success in her future work.
