MÁV IC+ carriages cleared for international operation

State-owned railway company MÁV has obtained a permit that clears two prototype "IC+" intercity carriages it developed for both domestic and international operation, MÁV and the National Transport Authority said in a joint statement yesterday.

The permit was awarded after the evaluation of data collected during tests on railway lines in Austria and Switzerland, the statement said.

The carriages were cleared for domestic operation last October and have since travelled 330,000 km.

MÁV unveiled the two prototypes a little more than a year ago. The carriages were developed by MÁV engineers in a HUF 1.4 bln project supported with a HUF 462 mln European Union grant.
