KSH: Retail sales up 4.7% in August in Hungary
Hungary’s retail sales saw a year-on-year rise of 4.7% in August (the increase was the same when adjusted for calendar year effects), while the unadjusted rise was down from 6.8% in July, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) said today (October 5) in a first reading of data.
In year-on-year terms, adjusted food sales saw a 3.7% rise in August, non-food sales were up by 4.6%, and fuel sales climbed 7.4%, KSH data shows.
In January-August of this year, retail sales were up by an unadjusted 6% and an adjusted 6.1%, as compared to the same period a year earlier.
KSH said that more time is needed to gauge the effects of the Sunday closure law, a measure that came into force on March 15 and required most retailers to close on Sundays.
A second reading of the data is due to be published by the KSH on October 29.
