KSH: PPI up 0.1% in December

Hungary’s industrial producer prices (PPI) edged up by a year-on-year 0.1% in December, and exports prices rose by 1.7% while domestic prices fell by 2.5%, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported today.

PPI remained unchanged as compared to the preceding month and export prices increased by 0.5%, while domestic prices inched down by 0.8%

In a year-on-year comparison, factory gate prices in the manufacturing sector edged up by 0.8%, prices of the transport equipment segment were up by 3.8%. Prices in the computer, electronic and optical products segment remained unchanged. Prices in the food, beverages and tobacco segment edged up by 0.5%. Prices in the gas, electricity and steam supply segment were down by 4.1%.

In a month-on-month comparison, producer prices in the manufacturing sector were down by 0.1%, prices in the transport equipment segment rose by 0.8%. Prices in the computer, electronic and optical products segment rose by 1.2%; prices in the food, beverages and tobacco segment edged up by 0.1%. Prices in the gas, electricity and steam supply segment were up by 0.6%

During the entire year, PPI saw a decrease of 0.4% and domestic prices also fell by 2.1%, while exports saw an increase of 0.7%. According to KSH, export prices were chiefly affected by the forint's exchange rate: The currency softened 1.1% to the euro and 2.2% to the American dollar from the previous month.
