Hungary’s industrial producer prices dropped by 2.2% on average in May, as compared to the same month a year earlier, with domestic sales prices dipping by 4.8% and export sales prices decreasing by 0.8%, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported today in a first release of data.

In the period of January-May, domestic sales prices were cut by 4.5% and export sales prices by 0.3%, so industrial producer prices as a whole were 1.7% lower compared to the same period a year earlier, KSH added.

Considering sub-sectors of domestic sales, manufacturing prices were 4.4%, while prices in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply, representing significant weight, were 6.7% lower than a year earlier, according to data by KSH. Prices were reduced by 7.1% in energy and intermediate producer branches – due to price developments of energy sources, KSH said.

At the same time, prices were up by 2.5% in producer capital goods producer and by 0.3% in producer consumer goods branches, KSH added.

In the sub-sectors of industrial export sales prices, manufacturing prices were down 0.5%, and prices in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply – also due to a decrease in the world market prices of energy sources – were 8.8% lower, according to KSH.
