KSH: Hungary’s trade surplus reaches €978 mln in February

Hungary’s external trade surplus was up €111 million to €978 mln in February, as compared to the same month a year earlier, while export volume grew by 9.5% and import volume by 11%, Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported today. In the period of January-February, the cumulated external trade surplus reached €1.5 billion.

According to data compiled by KSH, the value of exports amounted to €7.8 bln, while the value of imports reached €6.8 bln. 

In euro terms, exports increased by 8% and imports by 7.4% in February as compared to the same month a year earlier.

In year-on-year terms, the volume of machinery and transport equipment rose by 8.8% in exports and 13% in imports. The export and import volumes of manufactured goods were up by 11% and 12%, respectively. The export and import volumes of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 3.7% and 2.8%, respectively.

The import volume of fuels and electric energy remained near the base level, while the import volume of petroleum, petroleum products and related materials was slightly below and that of natural and manufactured gas was just above the base level, KSH said.

The volume of exports to EU member states rose by 12% and the volume of imports from the EU by 13%, while in extra-EU trade, the volume of exports rose by 1.8% and the volume of imports grew by 5.7%.
