KSH: Hungary’s population continued to decline in January
The Hungarian population was still on the decline in January, although the natural decrease was 1,628 lower than a year earlier, reaching 3,526, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported today.
In January 7,672 children were born, 4.3% fewer than in the same month a year earlier, while the number of deaths was 11,198, which meant a decrease of 15%, KSH added.
KSH noted that the number of deaths declined faster than that of births, as a result of which the natural decrease moderated from last year’s 5,154 to 3,526 persons in the first month of the year.
The number of marriages rose by 9.5% in January as compared to the same month a year earlier, reaching 1,377, KSH data show.
