KSH: Hungary’s external trade surplus reaches €507 mln in May

Hungaryʼs trade surplus reached €507 mln in May, with imports edging down by a year-on-year 0.9% to €6.695 bln and exports climbing 2.3% to €7.202 bln, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office said today in a second reading of data.

KSH data suggest that export volume grew by 1.7% and import volume decreased by 0.8% in external trade of goods in May in year-on-year terms, while the external trade surplus increased by €225 mln compared to May 2014. The surplus on the trade balance increased by €225 mln to €507 mln, KSH added.

The increase in the volume of machinery and transport equipment was 2.1% in exports and 1.7% in imports. The export and import volumes of manufactured goods were up by 1.3% and 0.8%, respectively. The import volume of fuels and electric energy was 18% less. The export and import volumes of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 3.6% and 6.7%, respectively.
