KSH: Hungary’s external trade surplus drops to €952 mln

Hungary’s external trade surplus dropped €58 million to €952 mln in March as compared to the same period a year earlier, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported today in a first release of data.

Export volume decreased by 1.5% and import volume was up by 1.5% in the month, compared to the same month a year earlier. The value of exports amounted to €8 billion and that of imports to €7.1 bln, KSH data show. In euro terms, exports decreased by 3.5% and imports by 3.2%, KSH said. 

The volume of exports to EU Member States fell by 0.7% and that of imports from EU Member States grew by 1.8%, while in extra-EU trade, the volume of exports decreased by 4.3%, and that of imports grew by 0.5%, according to data from KSH.

The volume of machinery and transport equipment fell 2.7% in exports and 2% in imports, KSH said, adding that the export volume of the largest commodity group, road vehicles, decreased by almost 10%, whereas the import volume stagnated.

The export and import volumes of manufactured goods were up by 2% and 5%, respectively. The export volume of food, beverages and tobacco decreased by 4.9% and the import volume increased by 3%, KSH said.
