KSH: Hungary’s CPI drops 0.2% in May

Hungary’s consumer price index was down 0.2% on average in May, as compared to the same month a year earlier, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) said in a first release today. The most significant drop was measured in vehicle fuel, while the highest rise was in alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

Data by KSH show that food prices remained unchanged as a whole. With regard to the different segments in food stores, sugar prices increased by 19.7%, the price of seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits) by 8.9% and edible oil prices by 7.9%, while pork prices were cut by 18.5%, the price of milk by 7.7% and cheese prices by 6.9%, KSH said.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices were up by 2.2%, services by 1.3%, consumer durables by 0.8% and clothing and footwear by 0.3%, KSH said.

The price of vehicle fuels was down 11.9%, while the price of electricity, gas and other fuels was down 0.1%.
